'Sports stars are positive role models for the youths of today' speech - 21/09/17
Sport. ‘An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowness and often of a competitive nature’. Many excel in sporting careers to showcase their talent and the benefits of exercise itself, but what do we consider the stars of the athletic world to be positive role models for the youths of our generation? In my opinion, they do and in this speech I hope to display the reasons why.
The benefits of exercising are extraordinary. In fact, exercise is one of the most important parts of keeping your body healthy. It helps people lose weight and lowers the risk of some diseases, including type two diabetesand high blood pressure. We take Irish rugby legend Paul O’Connell who partnered with Aldi to create a TV advertisement to drive and encourage participation in ‘Aldi Play Rugby’, a national IRFU initiative that encourages children to get active. As Paul O’Connell was not only an outstanding player but was also captain of the Irish rugby team, he is a leading role model in Irish society and by promoting fitness to young children he has shown only positives in his leadership.
We, as human beings come from all walks of life and different economic backgrounds, sports stars such as Lionel Messi and Conor McGregor show that working hard can get you from one side of the Liffey to the other. In other words, we as average people can become successful through sport.
We take football as our example, according to a 2001 FIFA survey, over 240 million people play football regularly in more than 200 countries. This means that even very unfortunate countries have the opportunity to produce some of the world’s greatest players and role models. We, the people can show our importance in this industry just like McGregor and Messi did and it is their stories that inspire us to do so.
In conclusion, sports stars play positive roles especially towards the youths of today because they support a healthy and active lifestyle and they show there is hope in becoming successful no matter your walk of life. I thank you for listening to my speech and considering the information.

12 Angry Men - Play
Ms. Kavanagh introdued 4D to a play written by Reginald Rose. It's called 12 Angry Men and is set in the 1950's. At the end of the play, we were given the task of creating a powerpoint presentation about a character of our choice from the play, my presentation and speech for the presentation is linked below. I really enjoyed this play and I believe it was very well chosen by our teacher.
